True Power Research provides power electronics consulting expertise to manufacturers, consultants, university research programs, research agencies, and start-up investors. The business was started by Bob Stowe after 21 years in the power electronics industry. For Bob Stowe, power electronics continues to be an enduring passion.

Philosophy

As a consultant with a passion for power electronics and as a person of moral principles based on an everlasting relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, True Power Research provides quality expertise with the needs of the client first and foremost. We believe in doing work with integrity, on an as needed basis, providing an excellent return on the the client’s investment. We have a strong emphasis on product reliability and robustness that will enhance the client’s standing in the market place due to enduring products that work great.

Types of Power Supplies

We are experienced with DC to DC, AC to DC, and DC to AC conversion methods and have designed many switch mode as well as linear power supplies with particular specialties in high voltage power supplies and low noise and low ripple power supplies.

The majority of our expertise has been in the development of military and industrial applications with some automotive applications as well.

Expertise

True Power Research has expertise in the development of specifications, design reviews for power electronics, troubleshooting, and new product development. We use Altium Designer Tools for product development, MathCad and Excel for design worksheets, SPICE simulation tools for design verification. We design for electromagnetic compatibility and are able to design custom high frequency magnetics as required for power supply designs.

Bob Stowe of True Power Research has written numerous technical articles related to power electronics. He is currently writing a power supply tutorial series for non-power supply engineers and managers which is found on this website at the Power Supply Tutorial Table of Contents . In addition, he has started a new series for EEWeb.com regarding specifying power supplies from a system point of view.

Credentials

Bob Stowe graduated from the US Naval Academy with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the United States Navy from 1980 to 1989. In 2006, he received a Master’s Degree in Power Electronics from Walden University. He also received a certificate for completing the graduate power electronics program at the University of Colorado also know as COPEC. He is a member in good standing of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
